Agapanthus

A huge agapanthus on the backyard terrace came into bloom this week and provided a nice subject for a quick watercolour sketch. Een grote agapanthus op het terras in de achtertuin kwam deze week tot bloei en bood een mooi onderwerp voor een aquarel.

Cliffs at Étretat

The coastline around Étretat is truly magnificent. During a recent visit there were several photography exhibitions going on throughout Normandy and it was a popular subject for many excellent works on display. The Church of Varengeville-sur-Mer

The church of St. Valéry in Varengeville-sur-Mer on the Normandy coast is picturesquely situated on top of a cliff. Alongside it, there are magnificent views over the sea far below and of the Normandy coastline with its high chalk cliffs which, not surprisingly, attracted many artists to this spot. Georges Braque designed a stained glass window for the church and is buried in the churchyard. Claude Monet painted the church and its surroundings several times. Here's an attempt of catching it in a watercolour myself. This tranquil place later inspired me for a poem: "Coastline / Sound of the sea / Waves to me". De kerk van Varengeville-sur-Mer in Normandië is schilderachtig gelegen op de top van een rots. Het mooie uitzicht over de zee en van de Normandische kustlijn met zijn hoge krijtrotsen trok in de loop der tijd vele kunstenaars naar deze plek. Georges Braque ontwierp een glas-in-loodraam voor de kerk en ligt begraven op het kerkhof. Claude Monet schilderde de kerk en haar omgeving een paar keer. Hier een poging om dit plekje zelf in een aquarel te vangen.

Sunlit Patch of Grass Between the Trees, Varengeville-sur-Mer

This sunlit patch of grass between the trees caught my eye in the beautiful village of Varengeville-sur-Mer during a trip to Normandy. I in turn tried to catch it in a watercolour. Een zonovergoten plek tussen de bomen bood een schitterend aanzicht in het prachtige dorpje Varengeville-sur-Mer in Normandië. Hier een poging om het in een aquarel te vangen.
